Okay, so what would cause anyone in their right mind to buy a toy store? In my case, I had worked in healthcare for almost twenty-one years, since I graduated from UAB. I felt like the analytical side of my brain was really overgrown and the poor little creative side was slowly withering away. I simply needed a change of pace. Initially I thought pharmaceutical sales since the healthcare industry was all I had known, but while looking in the “want ads” of our local paper for just such a job, I noticed a little “Toy Store for Sale” ad. I paid the store a visit, fell in love even though it was almost empty , and the rest is history. We purchased the store in August of 2000 and immediately started adding new toy lines. We outgrew our initial location and purchased a two story building across the street. We filled that up, even added a soda shop and birthday party room.
We added a second location in November, 2007, at the Oxford Exchange in order to increase our foot traffic. We have continued to evolve and learn more about toys and children. In 2009, my younger daughter came on board as manager of our Oxford location. She and her husband blessed us with our first grandchild in October, 2009. My granddaughter now serves as a great toy tester and I have learned how to make the most of our play time.
